6.65 Development

Just a quick update to keep you guys in the loop. The 6.65 development cycle is underway and I'm hoping to make it an enjoyable update. It will have some fresh new content in addition to the usual improvements. I'll try to post more information about it later.

What S2 Is Working On 10/26 Update


I wanted to throw out another update of things we're currently working on:

Clan Management & Tools
We've developed several advanced Clan Management tools and features (including a Clan Activity Index that you can use to compare your clan's activity to others). More information on these systems and how you can help us test them can be found here:

Automated Tournament System
This is still a work in progress, and to those who didn't catch our last update on this, it's a system that allows users to create tournaments on the website and seamlessly integrates into our other systems, notifying players of upcoming games, automatically submitting match results, and automatically updating the brackets. Participating in competitive HoN and organizing competitive events will be a breeze!

Once the ground work for the Tournament System is in place, we'll have most of what we need to very quickly get our League system operational, with a similar level of integration and support. As previously announced, we plan on having a $10,000 initial beta tournament for this upon completion (with more details down the road).

Match Making!
Many of you are aware that the initial testing and development of our match making system is already well underway. We're making good progress, and are excited to share the details of how this functions later. For now we're testing solo-match making, but once that is complete and functional we'll be able to pretty quickly introduce arranged team-style match making, as well as potentially a team finder tool so that groups of 2 or 3 can more easily find other groups of 2 and participate in the 5v5 match making system.

Spectator Interface / Replays

Part of our replays system has been revealed with the latest feature addition, the Match Stats tool. This tool already allows players to look up past games, but we'll be adding features and functionality to it. When replays are available, this tool will be capable of downloading and watching replays.

The rest of the spectator & replays interface is still being worked on. This is an interface specific to spectating or watching a replay. It will have more information and options to expand & collapse lots of detailed information panels. This also includes full functionality of replays with planned full backwards compatability.

The interface has been designed with competitive play in mind, with lots of little features and nuances that should make it easier for spectators or shout casters to catch the action and make detailed assessments of the gameplay based on the stats we provide.

We've got some code hook-ups to tie in here to get this all functional and then the spectator interface should be done. This isn't our highest priority, so it's getting done as the programmers are able. Expect to see it soon!

New Heroes
We've got several heroes planned and several still being designed. Expect to see two more hero ports and a few new HoN-original heroes too.

Misc optimizations / fixes
As always, we'll be continuing to work on improving and polishing existing functionality, balance fixes, hero/item reworks, and pathfinding tweaks are still planned.

* Can now sort by column by clicking the column name

- Fixed Behemoth's Heart to increase the damage of Agility heroes by 10% instead of 20%
- Barrier Idol's passive effect no longer stays around forever
- Doombringer should now clear ownership when someone holding it dies. For real this time. I'm serious...
- Assassin's Shroud now breaks stealth when a spell finishes casting, not when it starts

New Hero
- Corrupted Disciple, inspired by DotA's Razor

Heroes

Devourer
- Devour's max channel range increased to 400 (from 260)

Maliken:
- Sword throw projectile speed decreased to 700 (from 800)
- Life Essence will no longer heal Maliken when attacking structures
- Possession no longer lowers maliken's attack cool down time (previously it lowered from 1.7 seconds to 1.4)
- Possession mana cost increased to 150 (from 100)

Pandamonium:
- Cannonball no longer deals extra damage in a 400 radius. Instead, only units within stun range (200 radius) are damaged. Total damage dealt remains the same.

Puppetmaster:
- Whiplash's bonus damage is now dealt via a critical strike
* This prevents it from stacking with other critical strike items. Note that you have multiple critical strike sources that proc on the same attack, you will automatically use your most powerful critical strike.

Rampage
- Stampede should no longer randomly drop vision on the charged target
- Horned Strike's push now destroys trees
- Casting Favor of Sol no longer stuns Rampage for a second

Scout:
- Disarm's bonus damage is now dealt via a critical strike
* This prevents it from stacking with other critical strike items. Note that you have multiple critical strike sources that proc on the same attack, you will automatically use your most powerful critical strike.

Swiftblade
- Counterattack can no longer proc of spells

Vindicator
- Sage's Lore is no longer removable by Attack Abilities

Wretched Hag
- Flash of Darkness is now 800,900,1000,1150 range (from 700,850,1000,1150)
- Bat Blast will now apply Haunt's Haunted state when cast. The strength of the Haunted state depends on the level of Haunt.

The ESL Introduces HoN with The Grand Opening Cup


S2 Games has learned that Heroes of Newerth will be featured by the Electronic Sports League (ESL), the largest league for computer games in Europe. The ESL is kicking off its recognition of Heroes of Newerth with the Heroes of Newerth Grand Opening Cup.

Beginning on October 26, 2009, the cup will feature competition between teams of five. It will conclude with the Grand Final and crowning of the "First HoN Champion" on December 3, 2009. Following this, the ESL is planning on gradually opening HoN ladders for ESL members to compete in.

Guys, there's an info from me here, i'll having a school camping on Thursday 22th-Saturday 24th October, so I desperately apologize to my blog visitors, that maybe if there's updates, or maybe new patch..I'll post it late, cant up to date...

Help us test match making & other upcoming features

We've got a pretty big patch in the works, but before we can release it to the general beta populance, we need to run it through the pre-beta test client first to clear up any obvious issues that we can't quite test ourselves.

To those of you unfamiliar with the pre-beta test client, it's a special client that updates and installs separately from the regular beta client. When we have content that we know is going to require some more thorough testing, we put it through the test client to get the obvious bugs/issues out of the way (in addition to feedback on experimental balance changes). Some people like to ask "what's the point of the main beta test, then?" The second client really doesn't diminish the value or meaning of the primary beta test. Rather than put out a patch/update to the beta client that we know will have some glaring issues, we run it through this secondary process first. This actually helps the main beta test by not slowing it down with potentially game-breaking issues (our test patches on the pre-beta client receive minimal testing and often we'll patch multiple days in a row as we work on it, a process which would be quite troublesome if attempted on the main beta client).


To participate in the pre-beta test client games, you'll need to participate in our IRC channel. This is open to anyone who wants to join. Our IRC information is:

Now, everyone's favorite Red Jedi (S2Idejder) will be posting what kind of things you can expect to see down the road, some of which will be featured tomorrow on the test client. The main thing we need help testing tomorrow is the beginnings of our automated match making - it could completely fail and break, or perform marvelously. Find out by joining us on IRC!

It has been over a week since our last patch and seeing as it is 0.1.50, we figured we would do a bit extra. We are gunning for this to be quite a large patch and to change a few things about how you guys play. It will still be a bit of time from now, but hopefully we will get a test client build up in the next few days. Hopefully.

Here is a short “work in progress” list of what you should see in the next major build.

Matchmaking
Version 1

The first version of matchmaking will allow solo players to queue into the automatic Ranked Play system, putting 10 players of equal skill together and then starting the game. We will enhance this as time goes on to include full teams, partial teams, etc, but for now we want to make sure the groundwork is in place.

More details on this as we get closer to releasing it, but keep an eye on the test client for the first iteration of Matchmaking.

Two New Heroes

You will see the debut of Vindicator and Rampage in this patch. Reinforcements for the Legion.


New Game Modes

Look for the addition of Captain picking and Banning in a HoN game near you!

New Post-Game Stats Screen

A great and smooth new way to see the stats after a game ends and the stats of any game you have played in the past.

When we release this patch we plan to reset everyone's stats back to zero and scale everyone's PSR to compensate for the changes we have made to the system. Details about this will come soon.

Heroes of Newerth - Battle Channel Blog


I just made a blog, actually a video blog of HoN, like the visitor said before, they want to see the clan battle, or the battle video..
So I got a plan, and finally can make it, so if ya guys want to watch the clan battle videos, of the battle series videos, just watch it in my Heroes of Newerth Battle Channel Blog, instead of opening the YouTube and search between a hundred of useless vids..That's why i made the blog

Another Heroes Concept Art

- Fixed some major server crash and lag issues
- Images no longer revive from Token of Life along with fixing some other image issues
- Fixed Geometer's Bane movespeed so it stacks properly with items such as Hack and Slash
- Sand Wraith's Desert's Curse now properly casts at 300ms instead of 500ms
- Sand Wraith's Desert's Curse buff now lets the Sand Wraith path through Fissure and Mummies
- Sand Wraith's Dissipation to not hit Kongor
- Sand Wraith's images from Mirage now have unitwalking and have 400 base movement speed
* Mirage now grants vision of all enemy heroes for the duration of the spell
- Fixed Moon Queen's attacks to not bounce to runes
- Puppetmaster's Voodoo Puppet is now immune to everything but Magic and Attacks (IE: Transfigure, Push, etc)
- Kraken's Whirlpool no longer brings Bosses with it
- Kraken's Splash now takes 25 mana (used to be 15)
- Tweaked how attack speed rounds
- Hosts can no longer autobalance once the game starts (Tricky hosts...)
- Heroes are no longer able to deny themselves when they have a DoT on them
