HoN Battle Scene by Erenarik
Hey guys! While we all patiently wait for our servers to regain stability, I'd like to give you guys an opportunity to vote on the focus for a feature blog we'd like to do for you guys. A lot of you have given feedback on our latest heroes, commented on our hero production rate and process, and I think it's time we offered a fully detailed and entirely transparent behind the scenes dev blog on a hero and its development. This will show you guys how we go about our development process, what steps and evolutions a hero undergoes in its development process, and how far the end product comes from its beginning concept. We will conclude voting at the end of Sunday, and the winning hero will be chosen to begin development next week.
The candidates are:
- Drunken Master: Melee Strength hero. Concept based on the stumbling, comical, and iconic fighting style of a drunken brawler. Features an alternate take on the mana resource- it will be more of a "drunk" bar than a mana bar. Drunken Master by Rogna
- Harlequin: Melee Agility hero. Tricky and elusive fighter that literally causes enemies to spin in circles. Features an army of uncontrollable illusions and a mechanic that punishes enemies for ignoring you. Harlequin by S2Nome(forum)(DREAM)
- Blade Dancer: Melee Agility hero. Extremely mobile and quick and capable of providing both burst and sustained physical damage. Features an arcadey/action feel that makes directional facing extremely important, making it feel like you're "dancing" while playing. Blade Dancer by Lenios
Note: The results are hidden so that the current standings don't influence your vote. If you really want one of the heroes, get your friends to vote for it too!

i vote drunken master, we need something new, the drunken bar not mana bar
Drunken master! +1 ! Mangix powa :)
drunken master sounds like cool! drunken first then others will follow they all sound god
Harlequin ftw
Drunken master!
Harlequin > the others
Blade Dancer!
not another illusion skill :(
ill go blade dancer, i wanna dance while playing :))
I don't want to go drunk into battle so i'll choose Harlequin.
The vote goes for Drunken Master! :D
I don't like new mechanics like a "Drunk Bar" so my vote will be Harlequin.
Harlequin sound preety awesome, Drunken Master is nothing new, because something like him was already in DotA, Blade Dancer sounds like a 2nd Swiftblade or Nomad, so i vote 4 Harlequin.
Vote to make this Image up there the new title screen of HoN!
/back to topic Harlequin
drunker master no more agui heroes they are kind of bug =/
drunk master ftw!
harlequin, for sure
I think Harlequin is the most unique out of them all, Drunken Master, if made VERY different from Panda by either making him move people around more or avoid damage or something could also be awesome.
Blade Dancer seems like the most difficult one to design well... direction and stuff is cool but I see it being super difficult to play (like having Valk Arrow, SS hands, Glad Spikes, and FA Ult) and have to be super buffed to compensate for the large amount of error present, or it'll just be really bad to play.
Though I cant completely poo poo the Blade Dancer. I'm sure given enough thought and iteration a cool design could be implemented. For example, a low mana skill (costing as much as a 'per-shot' modifier(or a little more)) that blinks you to nearby units/heroes, like a modified Nighthound pounce. Then you could compliment it with cleaves or rapid use skills that make the hero a "Single target aoe damager." where the ultimate idea is to jump between people to avoid target attacks and damage while bringing down the health of the enemy team.
I guess I'll theory a bit more because I like the idea of solving problems I see in a design.
You could have the low mana blink skill get more costly as you iterate making it something that can't be horribly abused, but then it can add damage increasingly as you use it. Tie that in with gear that adds on attack debuffs like Shield Breaker or Frost Wolf Skull and you'll still have a very formidable hero.
To counter the blinking the best approach should be to make them fairly low health, they'd also be pretty susceptible to aoe attacks.
The blinking would definitely cover the dancing part of the hero. Then to add the blade part. The Ult would be fairly easy. a literal blade storm would be effective. A smaller aoe effect that does decent damage, small enough that it can't just hit everyone in a big battle, but combined with the 'dancing' you'd have a big burst of damage output and be an effective battle player.
A simple ability would be to basically replicate Chippers rockets... but make them do less, no stun but not stop after it collides. It would just travel out until it hits its max distance. Then while you're blinking around you can line up shots on others, do a somewhat.. aoe damage while blinking but then give them a good chasing/sniping ability.
another simple skill that would be effective with the blink dancing would be a castable cleave. a stand alone spell or on next hit with a cleave and maybe a bonus bit of damage would allow you to control large groups.
I think the biggest basis around this character would be small but rapid damage output with a myriad of complimenting skills to make the blinking a very, dance-esque type of combat.
Ohohoho. if you wanted to go for a strange mechanic I dont think I've seen yet is that the radius of the blink could be modified by their movement speed. Post haste would be great but Striders would make them an excellent ganker or chaser, it would allow them to leap because their movement would be so high for that temporary burst to catch up to the player.
harlequin. Drunken master has been done. People think beer is cool, I get it but it just doesn't seem as good as harlequin.

Just want to say, I already went there with blade dancer!
^That isn't exactly what i imagined, i just put down what i had in mind in a 10 minute span
That character looks too close to a Chronos character. The whole point they want with blade dancer is that YOU'RE making the character dance. thats why the blinking I wrote out is a user activated skill. Then YOU'RE the one deciding when to blink and if its an effective time to blink.
Tied with manual aim thrown daggers is what keeps the 'clutch' attitude of the character. Imagine blinking behind a Witch Slayer right as he's about to use his stun on you. or leaping out of the way of a big aoe blast right on you and a crowd of your partners.
wow, what a nice discussion here, by the way updated the post with link to the hero by Ismail Vera, its just a speculation but he says specially Blade Dancer fit the DREAM hero, and I think Harlequin by S2Nome, its him, you guys know that Nome likes to post his own hero.
And, the image by Erenarik, I think he is the HON's Kunkka
I never want to see something as stupid as Drunken Master in HoN - that shit is for League of Legends with a drunkenness bar... screw that crap, HoN has already almost destroyed the pro skill of mana conservation, now it wants to do away with it completely!
you idiots, stop telling drunken master is the same as pandaren in dota just for the word "drunken" you simple minded noobs.. drunken master will be very unique I assure u that. and IMO pandaren sucks
drunken master will be nice, it will be another type of caracter which is really fun to play altenative type of caracter
