Reddit : Day/Night Hero Ability Ideas with a Designer

Why hello you reddit people,

So in the Master of Arms thread a lot of you guys seemed unhappy with his design. Calling it too complex, too many things going on, not deep enough, or whatever else you might think. I told you that I am open to your ideas of abilities that you felt were deep but what you considered 'simple'. This is a bit of an exercise in that and it might go somewhere.

I will give you a basic outline of a hero idea and some rules to follow (This is your Design Direction). After you have this, think about what abilities you think would fit well on this hero. This is your chance to take your critical thoughts and apply them in a productive way. It is very possible this could turn into an actual hero for our internal testing, but it is also possible that it might not. Ideas are a great thing and if something happens I will be sure to let you know.


So let's hear your original ability ideas. No numbers, just concepts (fleshed out, as detailed as you want) and upvote the ones that you like the most. And it should be obvious, no Nightstalker port/copying nonsense.
The idea here isn't to post a whole hero design from top to bottom, it's to just post an ability or two that you think is great or a theme concept and let others expand on it. Collective collaboration. You can expand on that and maybe post a whole design, but individual concepts and ideas are much easier to work with.

Feel free to ask questions. Just remember: No promises! But I will be reading everything so take it seriously.
Design Direction:
  • Day/Night centered Melee hero -- mechanic that is better at night.
  • The ult will let you control the day/night cycle or the time of day, etc. You can ignore the ult as a whole unless you have a unique mechanic you want to field. Focus on the Q W E.
  • The hero should not be blatantly crap in the day. Think of it like drunk charges from Drunken Master almost, at night they just have a bonus but the base ability is the same, the reason to use it is mostly the same. That vein of thinking.

Well, I would personally make his ultimate passive which grants longer night duration and shorter day duration, but, he needs to have an active part of it. Active can be anything u could think of...stop time, give AS-MS boost, some tanking boosts (anything, a skill adjustable to his other skills that wont make him to OP)

He is melee hero, so i would give him 1 or 2 passive skills. But if u dont want to copy Night Hunter, then make his ultimate and passive boosting his skills during the night. So he becomes caster, like behemoth or black smith.
